Q: Why should I use a professional locksmith?

A:
Skilled locksmiths bring experience and fund of knowledge in lock, safe and security problems and are better prepared to solve security issues. Professional locksmiths can prescribe state of the art products that work and provide more effective solutions in an efficient manner. The state of North Carolina requires any one providing locksmith services to be licensed.

Q: I have a key marked "Do Not Duplicate". Can I get a copy of it?

A:
Keys marked "Do Not Duplicate", "Do Not Copy", or "Unlawful to Copy" may be duplicated ONLY if a letter of authorization is presented with a request for duplication.  The letter should be on company letterhead and identify the key to be made, the number of keys, the person picking up the keys and the name, title and phone number of person writing the letter.  We reserve the right to refuse to duplicate any key marked "Do Not Duplicate".

Q:  Is the "Do Not Duplicate" marking on a key enough for controlling key duplication?

A:
No. While we respect the "Do Not Duplicate" marking on a key, some discount stores do not.  To effectively prevent unauthorized key duplication, a restricted key lock should be used such as Mul-T-Lock or ASSA.

Q:  My landlord gave me the keys to the house I am renting.  Why should I get new ones?

A:
Because it is your belongings.  When was the last time the locks were rekeyed? If you do not know the answer to this, you may be a risk.  There could be many tenants out there with the keys to your house.

Q:  Why do I have to wiggle my keys in the lock to make it work?

A:  As locks age over time, the pins in a lock cylinder tend to "wear" down causing your keys to stick and forcing you to wiggle the key in the lock to make it work.  Most likely the keys you were given have probably been copied several times and this, plus pin wear, can cause the lock to act like it is breaking.

Q:  Why do I need a safe?

A:  When you buy a safe what you're really buying is time.  Time to protect your valuables from a thief. Guns are the number one item stolen in a home burglary.

Police reports indicate most thieves want to get their job  done as quickly as possible to reduce their chance of getting caught.  Most break-ins are the smash and grab type - getting their job done in 10 minutes or less.

A residential or commercial safe compliments any security system by protecting the front end of a break end.  The thieves know they dont have much time.  Experienced burglars are even bold enough to go about their business with the alarm blaring away.

When a thief enters a home or office, the real deterrent seems to be the addition of a residential security or gun safe.  Police reports indicate that when a thief sees a shiny, heavy-duty safe they generally leave without taking a thing.  They're left to mumble, "anything of value is probably in that safe and we don't have the time nor the tools, so let's just go to the next house."
